What a 710 credit score gets you
Mortgage
Options available
Several mortgage options may be available, subject to lender requirements. With a co-borrower, ask which representative score determines pricing and which is used for eligibility. Do not average two app scores to predict a rate.
Car loan
Options available
Priced in the 700–719 band. At 720 the car rate improves once more, and after that the published car bands barely move until the high 700s.
Credit cards
Options available
Card issuers set their own requirements and rates. The CFPB's February 2024 study of offers from the first half of 2023 found substantial APR differences between large issuers and smaller banks or credit unions within the same credit-score group. Compare actual card terms rather than inferring an APR from your score alone.
Renting
Options available
A 710 can support a rental application, but landlords set their own screening policies and may consider income, rental history and other information.
These are broad credit-score categories, not approval odds. Lenders also assess income, debt, credit history and their own requirements.
What 710 costs you in interest
Your bar on both charts is the same as 700's. The car staircase has one clear step left, at 720. The mortgage staircase is nearly flat from 700 to 739 and then drops at 740, which is why home buyers in the low 700s do better aiming 30 points up than 10.

What this estimate includes
Estimates use national average bands, not an offer or approval prediction. Your lender may use a different score. Mortgage payments exclude taxes, insurance, mortgage insurance and fees. Full-term interest assumes no refinancing, early payoff or extra payments.
How to get from 710 to 720
At 710 there is rarely one problem to fix. The points left are in the parts of the formula you control month to month.
- Lower the share of your limits that gets reported. Amounts owed is 30% of the score. Pay before each statement closes, not after.
- Space out applications. The FTC notes that too many recent applications can hurt a score. Checking prescreened offers does not count against you; applying does.
- If you are buying jointly, read both files. If your co-borrower's score is the lower one, their card balances and any errors in their reports are where the points are.
- Keep old accounts open. They hold up both your total limit and the age of your history.
If a car is coming, 720 is worth a couple of tidy statement cycles. If nothing is, 710 is a perfectly good place to sit.
What a Good score means (670 to 739)
A good score can give you a wider choice of lenders. This is the stretch where published reference bands can still change the estimate. 20.1% of Americans with a FICO score are in this range, according to Experian's 2025 data. What the good range means in practice.
Questions about a 710 score
What credit score is used for a joint mortgage?
For Fannie Mae pricing, the lender uses the lowest applicable score among borrowers (each borrower’s middle of three scores or lower of two). Average median scores can apply to certain eligibility tests, not pricing. That representative score sets the pricing band, so a lower-scoring partner pulls the whole loan down.
